Welcome to The Prajnopaya Institute of Buddhist Studies

The Prajnopaya Institute of Buddhist Studies (MIT-Prajnopaya) is devoted to a non-sectarian and non-denominational approach to Dharma. Students are encouraged to engage in the study of the Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana (Triyana) schools. Prajnopaya also brings together all five schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Institute continues to grow under the chief patronage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, along with the heads of the other Tibetan Buddhist lineages, and provides a healthy environment for spiritual dialogue. The Prajnopaya Institute emphasizes critical study combined with serious practice.

Gift Giving:

Friends of Prajnopaya provide critical support and ensure its ongoing operation and strategic expansion. This will enable the Institute and Foundation to continue to offer exceptional humanitarian aid, speakers, and high-caliber programs that are unique. These Gifts can be designated to a particular cause of your choice.

Based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 2002, MIT-Prajnopaya provides advanced students, beginners, as well as curious visitors from other traditions with a venue to study Buddhism. We welcome teachers from all schools of Buddhism. Resident and visiting teachers offer regular classes in meditation, Buddhist philosophy, and Buddhist art. We also provide opportunities for individuals to rejuvenate and to recommit to their spiritual growth at our periodic intensive weekend retreats.

Besides bringing together practitioners from many Buddhist traditions, MIT-Prajnopaya is also committed to promoting interfaith discussions between Buddhists and members of other religious traditions of the world. We are also involved in the ongoing dialogues that examine the similarities and differences between Buddhism and Western sciences. Additionally, we offer guided pilgimages to sacred sites in India, Nepal, and Tibet. Many individuals have found such spiritual endeavors transformative and meaningful to their on-going spiritual journey.

MIT-Prajnopaya also initiates collaborative projects that sends young university students, whose majors range from Electrical Engineering to Anthropology, to India, Nepal, Tibet and Sri Lanka to work on various humanitarian projects. Some of our students are currently involved in summer/ winter medical camps and aiding researches to develop low-cost effective water filters for India and Nepal. The study and praactice of Buddhism has helped these individuals develop altruism in their personal lives and help create better life for others.

Please consider giving a gift to support the spiritual, contemplative and active efforts of our foundation. All contributions and donations made to the Prajnopaya Institute of Buddhist Studies or MIT-Prajnopaya are tax deductible under the 501(c)3 of Prajnopaya Institute of Buddhist Studies or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
